Wolf Spider (Lycosidae) with Egg Sack and Spiderlings by

Wolf spiders are a group of wandering hunters that don’t make a capture wen for prey. The mothers attached their egg sack to their spinnerets and carry it until the spiderlings hatch. As they hatch, the babies climb onto the mother’s back. This Mom still had the egg sack attached, and young were still hatching.

These spiders are terrific Mommies. A thumbs up for Mother Love!

I love nature, science, poetry, prose, art, music – you name it! Now that I’m retired, time is mine to spend as I wish (pretty much), and I wish to take pictures of our natural world.

Bringing the outdoors in for others to see, especially those who may not get the opportunity to wander next to a pond, fish at the beach, or tramp in the woods, is a pleasure. I hope to build a window to the wonders of nature that fill our everyday lives.

What a great capture. This shot is a science project in itself as it shows habitat, mother, egg sack and babies. You were brave to get this, I would have just screamed and ran away :-)

  • Isn’t it amazing how the Mommy spider makes sure her babies are taken care of until they can go off on their own!
