Beach plums are beloved for their healthy and delicious wild fruit. Most of us know it as jam:>) It grows wild from Maine to Maryland in the dunes of the coast, thriving on the salt air, brisk breezes, and sandy soils. This is, as far as I know, the only wild species of this type – unusual in nature to have only one. It blooms prolifically in June and the fruit is ripe in August. They are becoming endangered in Maine because of beach development.
