Freedom
For many of us freedom is something we take for granted.
However, freedom is not for granted many generations fought for it and even now in the twenty first century too many people are not free.
But are we really free? Is it enough to live in a democratic country to be free?
What is the meaning of freedom for you?
The image was composed from 3 images taken in the underground prisoners museum in Jerusalem.
The place was the main prison of the British government from 1920 to 1948.
Hundreds of Jewish underground members who fought against the British mandate were imprisoned there.
The left image shows a lot of bars representing prison, the middle image shows window between the bars representing hope, in the right image there is no bars representing freedom (free to go; there is no bars to stop you). The fist in the image represents the struggle needed to be free.
I shot these images during a photography course i am attending.
Thank you to the wonderful teacher Sharon for showing all the images together as a series.

I love the symbolism behind these images Moshe i guess it touches us in so many ways! The fist in the third image, what does it represent i am very interested to know? And how do you put 3 images together in 1 is it done in photoshop?
Moshe Cohen replied
It was done with photoshop, in fact it is very simple.
Well i think it represents freedom because there is no bars to stop you. The fist in the image can represent the struggle needed to get freedom.
But all of this relate to physical freedom.
My question is: is that enough or there is something else like spiritual freedom? Are we spiritually free?
I guess it takes a lot of work to achieve that.
Maria Murphy
Beautifully done .I am all for freedom !!!
Moshe Cohen replied
Thank you Maria.

great work Moshe…also the explanation of your work…..as to spiritual freedom I believe somebody can achieve it, it is up to the person. A person can also imprison himself within, but like your image shows there is always hope. For me there is no greater freedom believing and trusting in HaShem.
Moshe Cohen replied
Thank you Ilunia.
I truly respect your attitude.

Hmmmmm i’ve really thought about your question Moshe and i have to ask ‘what is true freedom?’ Surely it is the ability to be able to make ones own decisions either physically, mentally, emotionally etc…..our will in other words, the problem occurs when our choices impinge on another or hinders our spiritual growth or relationship with God. Some choose not to believe that does’nt mean He does’nt exist just that we choose not to follow that route…....i’m with llunia there is no greater freedom that to believe in HaShem but we must also have the relationship with Him afterall even the devil believes! :0)
Moshe Cohen replied
Well Jacquelin, for me freedom is to be in touch with my creativity.
Mybe this is my way to believe.

I read books of photoshop but could never figure it out and gave up on it. On freedom, these pictures remind me of pictures of jails for political prisoners in my country, Cuba I saw the other day in a talk show; I guess we do take a lot of things for granted, but for me it was difficult to reach freedom, but never that difficult.
I mean it was difficult as a child to go thru hunger and poverty to be able to come to the United States, but everything has a price.
