Artist's Description

A rather shabby pair of locomotives, with an ex-locomotive modified to be a radio-control “sled” in between them, switching an industrial spur in La Habra, California, USA.

For me, this is modern California branch lines epitomized; the old locomotives (UPY 1219, the SW1500 switcher in the foreground, is 35 years old, as is the GP38-2 locomotive in yellow at the rear), the way the decade-gone SP still lingers in un-repainted locomotives, the graffiti and dents all over. At the same time, the modern in terms of remote radio control – there’s nobody in the cab at all.
