This is where I live, the picturesque Kentish village of Aylesford on the River Medway, in Kent, England.
A beautiful five-arched medieval bridge dating from around 1250 spans the river, and the surrounding jumble of timbered and gabled dwellings are of great antiquity. St Peter and St Paul’s church, parts of which date back to the Norman invasion, can be seen on the hill above the village. I live just behind it. The village is a beautiful place and I am surely fortunate to live there.
The bridge and village was the location of the opening scenes of Half a Sixpence, a 1967 British musical film directed by George Sidney and choreographed by Gillian Lynne.
