On the very western edge of the Simpson Desert is Old Andado Station. This historical site, now holds a heritage listing.

Molly Clarke part owner of the station and now living in Alice Springs restored the station in 1972 and we are now able to get a feel and understanding of how early Australian pioneers worked and lived.

In the most inhospitable conditions with desert temperatures rising to more than 50 degrees Celsius they prospered…for around 50years.
The station ran cattle, sheep and horses.

Inside the homestead and old out building structures original personal belongings can be seen and appreciated.

You can camp at the station which has good but rugged facilities. The station homestead is set down between two red sand hills that run further than the eye can see.

The track into Old Andado was graded for the first time in the 1990’s

In June 2006 along with a group of fellow travellers we meet at Old Andado and headed west across the Simpson Desert, following the route of Cecil Madigan who started her at Old Andado in 1939 and crossed west to east by camel, on a scientific expedition of the desert.
We followed his path by 4wd using GPS co ordinates, camping at his recorded overnight camping points, travelling cross country as no track exists in this area. The Simpson Desert is around 178,000 thousand square kilometers.
