Crossing the Simpson Desert via the GPS points of the Madigan Line.
The sandhills are around 30mt high stable at the base with a soft “live” top.
Getting over sandhills where no previous track exists is a little tricky. Speed is need to crest over the very soft smooth sand, however you have to learn to “prop” on the top as often the other side can be an almost verticle 30mt descent, requiring you select low range 1st gear, while you turn the nose of the vehicle slightly to the left to look out the drivers window to see where you are going, as looking over the bonnet you only see blue sky.

    Nice capture Joe
It sure sounds a tricky terrain to get over.
What are the chances of botoming out over these crests?

Mark on the track out of Birdsville it’s well formed and you will have no problems.
The Madigan Line has had very few travellers and no track exists, so the sandhill tops are very soft, and without momentum you slow, and then your tyres “dig you in” unless you get off the trottle very quickly.
Snatch straps and digging recoveries happen every day.
Tyre pressures are around 16psi,sometimes down to 10 when really stuck.

Page 12 of my portfolio has an action shot of the tryes simply digging in…they look like red donuts on each wheel

Joe, this is great. My other half just said “we need to do that”
(mind you we got bogged in red sand with our non 4wd).
Good to see a fully functional and dirty off road vehicle
after seeing way too many clean ‘toorak tractors’!
