Redbubble Chief buys my pic

Very chuffed to receive a BM from Redbubble chief and co founder Peter Styles advising he ordered a large canvas print of one of my images taken at Lorne Victoria.
For Peter and his family Lorne is a favorite and regular holiday destination in this coastal town on The Great Ocean Road.

Many thanks Peter:-))

Walhalla Historic Gold Town

Walhalla Historic Gold Mining Town.
By Joe Mortelliti

Marion and I passed through Walhalla around 7 years ago on our way to Woods Point.

At the time we noted from the locals that you could camp along the creek in the main street, and that really appealed to us.
Some of the town buildings had been restored and looked very quaint and set in this narrow gorge along the edge of Stringers Creek in the valley it was a very charming spot and we promised ourselves we would go back.

We finally got there this month and the main street camping had mainly been stopped by the shire and turned into day visitor areas, but a few selected spots remained along the meandering road.
We chose to camp at North Peak on the edge of town. This is a free camp area, set between the mountains, heavily treed and very …

Steriods

Steriods.
By Joe Mortelliti

I now know why some athletes take them.

Due to a medical hiccup I was put on a strong dose of steroids a few months back. This dosage has been slowly reduced since then but in the meanwhile life did change somewhat..
I started getting up at 2.00am and “had” to edited photos, complete some writing and setup check lists for my up coming camping trip…I was so pumped up and running.
Things did improved after a little while and that changed to rising at 4.00am, but the level of activity was intense

My wife although concerned at my level of activity was very pleased that after some years that I had arranged to re carpet our house within days, something I had really been procrastinating about for a long time.
However I think she is still a bit bewildered and cannot und…

Ace Cafe

Check out the Ace Cafe with Peter Davidson, once the Black Knight of the PC&A group, and co-hosts Mark Bolton and Hilary Robertshaw.

I joined ACE CAFE here on RB a couple of weeks ago…really good critique/tough… but overall a good crowd.
I have benefited a lot since joining.
Images have to win 10 votes and can only be lodged with an explanation of why you voted that way…a real good learning environment with good feed back.

They also have a “workshop”area that I have also contributed to and that is more at couching enviroment,no voting here with people making recommendations…I got a lot of value out of that too.
Check it out you will learn heaps:-))

West McDonell Ranges Adventure

West McDonell Ranges, NT
Joe Mortelliti

A dirt circuit drive just west of Alice Springs, will have you discovering the West McDonall Ranges.
Image: Mt Sonder

Traveling on Namatjira Drive and Larapinta Drive this dirt loop covers around 400km and can be done in a car except for Palm Valley that requires high clearance 4wd.

Camping is available at numerous National Park facilities on route.
Image: Ormiston Gorge, a great camp spot.

Resort locations such as Glen Helen provide campers with facilities such as restaurant, bar, beer garden, gallery, pool, BBQ, laundry, ironing so this is camping with style.

Tents and caravans are catered for along with free nightly entertainment which we found was a feature of many caravan parks in the Alice Springs area.

Balgo Hills Art, Uniquely Australian, Internationally Acclaimed

Tanami Track, WA
By Joe Mortelliti

The Tanami Track heads off to WA from just outside Alice Springs.
This dirt track is around 1170km and finishes on the western side of Australia at Halls Creek.

After an eleven hour drive out of Alice Springs were at the turn off to Balgo Hills whos community is located about 37km off the Tanami Track. The locals from Balgo refer to the turn off as “down at the corner”

Can you imagine the reality of this?…get your head around it.You work and live at Balgo Hills, you need to do some serious city shopping. You leave Balgo and drive 37km to the corner, turn right on the rough dirt Tanami Track, you drive straight on, there are no turn offs, and around eleven hours latter you arrive at Alice Springs to shop, asssuming no punctures or breakdowns.

Goyder Nailed It on Horse Back… and no computer modelling.

Goyders Line
By Joe Mortelliti

On our first south to north crossing we ended up camped at Batton Hill in the North Simpson Desert, Northern Territory.
An aboriginal guide lead us to a land feature called Goyder’s Pillar where we were treated to a colour show spectacular something like at Uluru, but without the throng of tourists, just a handful of us in a wilderness area.
With the deserts sun setting this feature just lite up and due to heavy cloud cover only lasted about 20 seconds, but an unforgettable experience.

Back home I did some checking up on who Goyder was to be honored with this landmark named after him.

George Goyder, Surveyor General from 1861-1890 fixed the limits of sustainable agriculture in SA with extraordinary accuracy.

With barely 30 years’ knowledge of this new …

Terowie,South Australia

Terowie, South Australia
Joe Mortelliti

On a return trip from the Outback we were heading home via the Southern Flinders Ranges and decided to detour and go to Terowie, just to see what it was all about.
Marion and I take regular detours as it adds enormously to the fun of discovery while traveling.

What a delightful little town. It was mid week and not a soul in sight. The main street is string of beautiful charming old building with so much character…buildings from 1880’s and untouched and now the town has been given a “Historic” designation.
The charming stone work and interesting façades of that era is a pleasure to see.

I simply drove down the main street stopping on the road to compose a few shots, capturing elements of these fabulous old buildings, just shooting out of the car windo…

The Colours of the Cambridge Gulf,Wyndham,WA

The Colours of the Cambridge Gulf, Wyndham
Joe Mortelliti

One of the most spectacular places to witness a sunset across water in Australia is at the Cambridge Gulf in Wyndham, Western Australia.
The Bastion Range Look Out at this very top edge of Australia’s also looks out to the islands at sea above our coast line, to the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf.

This lookout is also known as the 5 River Views, this is where the mighty Ord River and 4 other major rivers come together at the Cambridge the Gulf…no shortage of water here, ever. The Ord, Forrest, King, Durack and Pentecost Rivers flow profusely.

Perched at the lookout with camera and a glass of champagne this is one of most spectacular natural features one can witness.

Wyndahm in the East Kimberly is a town that is extremely run down and has l…

Outback With The Wire Man (Humour)

Outback With The Wire Man.
By Joe Mortelliti

Over a number of years of 4wd touring I have made a life long friend of the “Wire Man”…my friend Paul.

How did I come to call him the Wire Man?.

The first trip Marion (my wife) and I met Paul on was when we rendezvoused heading out through the Dangali Conservation Park in South Australia, having just passed through the Murray Sunset Country in Victoria.
IMAGE :The red sandy soil of this outback region

The small convey of our 4wd adventure group that Marion andI was part of was well stretched out as we cruised along this red desert regions sandy tracks. We kept in touch by radio.
As I rounded a tight bend I looked ahead and saw a cattle grid with a fence line either side… I saw fresh skid marks leaving the corner in the sand the skid marks skewer…
