Straw Hats- Guatemala
It was Mother’s Day when we went to San Juan Atitan, in the hills of northern Guatemala. They take it pretty seriously up there. Fiesta country. Everybody- bar nobody (except us visitors)- was dressed in these fantastic outfits- brown woolen vests, purple and maroon and red shirts, the men in white dress pants and straw boaters. It was a sight to see en-masse, hundreds of them gathered in the plaza, all in a festive mood. I just loved the hats, and the way everybody was dressed, almost like a uniform, so when this shot lined itself up I couldn’t help but have a go at it. Very cool hats. I want one… :o)

Great shot. Love the way the hats and the purple are represented as a receding theme – makes the cultural flavour stand out.
