Mesquite Dunes
The dunes just outside Stovepipe Wells on the Mesquite Flats in Death Valley National Park. This shot was taken around 6am, trying to make the most of high-contrast early-morning light. In the event, a haze close to the horizon kept the scene from being heavily contrasty, but instead the diffuse dawnlight gives the dunes a softly textured feel, almost like silk, while the way the clouds lined up with the dunes was just perfect for the angle I was shooting from and brought this together nicely.
