map of the supercontinent Pangaea by

Fun and educational poster art.
Pen and ink, coloured and textured digitally.

“Our world long ago, all the lands joined together
When first appeared beasties of fur and of feather”

ADDENDUM – I have recently updated the title of this map to make it more accurately reflect the span of time these creatures lived, and I tweaked the typography a little to make it prettier. Hope no one minds! I think it improves the map, which is why I altered it. R :)

What is Pangea? Well, strange as it may seem, over great periods of time the Earth’s continents move around. This is a map of the supercontinent of Pangaea – the Earth as it looked around 250 to 200 million years ago in the Triassic. Two massive continents Gondwana and Laurasia had just bumped into each other forming a supercontinent. Early almost-dinosaurs and almost-mammals roamed the land, winged reptiles ruled the air and marine reptiles swam the oceans.

As you can see this artwork has an extraordinary amount of texture and detail. It is designed to look its best when printed at poster sizes. It would be ideal artwork for a classroom or for a kids room.

you can meet the beasties and find out more about this artwork on my blog

The map of Pangaea would also make a nice postcard to say
‘The Triassic is beautiful, wish you were here’

The map of Pangaea is also available as a t-shirt

So cool! I love the storybooky quality – like there’s buried treasure out there somewhere! And I love how you’ve got some plants in there too. Please say you’ll be doing more for later time periods? : P

  • Thanks so much for the feedback Ms Turner!

as always, beautifully conceived Mr Morden! (nice to see your moosh (face) on your new avatar!)

  • Thanks for the kind words Ms Woolley. Still not sure about the avatar – though I suppose it doesn’t hurt to show the world I’m a real person :)
