Mistletoe Through The Window by

A dedication to Mistletoe – The Silver Shaded Chinchilla Persian Cat.

I have created this tribute to my dearly departed friend of almost 21 years for our special group The Rainbow Bridge Group

Mistletoe had a wonderful long life, was a very smart and loving little cat, who sometimes behaved more like a dog, walking on a lead and harness, and travelling with us in the car.

During her life, she never once killed a bird, and even sat near some Blue Tits in the summer house once, watching as I fed them right in front of her nose. We had a large pond with frogs in it, and she never harmed them either. When she lay in the garden, it was not at all uncommon for the birds to hop up and down in front of her without a care in the world; they had become used to the fact that she meant them no harm.

One day, just two months before her 21st birthday, I came home from work early. My husband Ken had collected me from my office which was only a few minutes away by car, so she was not alone for more than ten minutes, and when I walked in to the hall, she was lying in a strange position in her bed, and I knew immediately that something was wrong.

I had known that she not well for a few months as she had several ´mini´ strokes, and I had prayed to God that when the time came, that I would be with her.

Well, that dreaded day had arrived. I picked her up and we cradled her in our arms, and whispered softly in her ear to stop her from being afraid, but it took 20 minutes for her to die – with her little head covered with lipstick kisses and tears………………………….

As it happens most likely, on that same day, a little Maltese was conceived in Scotland, and through coincidence, she found her way into our lives. It was not until after Snowdrop had been with us for some time, and having discovered that she and Mistletoe were so very alike, making the same little noises, eating their food in the same manner, walking in the same pathways through the house, avoiding the Chinese rugs, and many other things, that we made enquiries, and counted backwards to find out that the greatest chance was that her conception must have been on that same day !

I don’t really know much about re-incarnation, but it does make me think, could it really be possible ?

I do hope so.

This is Snowdrop

So sorry, and happy! You lost one, but gave another a chance. It is so hard to lose our beloved pet family members – we have all experienced this loss. But, the memories gained are worth the pain. Both photographs are beautiful!!

  • Thank you so very much Dawn, I am delighted that you like it, and yes I agree, I know she had a wonderful life, and I was able to look after her right up until the end.

Beautiful cat and story, Morag. You should send it to ImageWriting, I think… and to Cats and Dogs, Pets are US, Domestic and Pedigree cats, etc. ;-)

  • Thank you so very much Gili, I will consider doing what you have suggested and will have a look.

This is a wonderful portrait of your beautiful cat, and the raindrops give it double appeal. I know the pain of losing a beloved pet. You must have wonderful memories of her. Congratulations on the challenge win!
