Nap in the pasture
I must apologize for bringing this picture to you, because I do so at the cost of frightening the little gal. I spotted her [do you know how to tell it’s a “her”?] as I was driving along a backroad. She was close to the fence, but I’m very familiar with cattle so I didn’t expect to be able to sneak up for a shot. However, if I didn’t try, I CERTAINLY wouldn’t get the shot, right? Every so sneakily, using the fact that other cattle were making normal cattle-type sounds as they grazed, I was preparing the tripod and camera before reaching my target spot beside the fence. I guess the reason it opened its eyes was probably the sound of the camera as it focused because didn’t sound quite like the cameras used by the grazing cows. I seriously did not think I got the shot. I thought she sprang up the instant she opened her eyes, and my shot would be a useless blur. I was really pleased to see that there is no “sign of spring” in the photo, Good thing female calves of that age are not generally prone to heart attacks. —how to tell she’s a female? She has a pink nose, silly!

I didn’t taste “her” to know if “she” is sweet. And… ummm, the pink-nose rule… I was foolin’ you, silly! You were thinking the baby bull calves have blue noses, right? :) :) Silly, silly FairyLover! :)

Very nice shot, looks very peaceful… I’m not to sure about the nose things lol I live on a farm and thats not how we tell the boys from the girls!!

Danielle!! Are you one of those people who checks out the OTHER end to determine the boy/girl thing?!!! Are there pink and blue parts back there? I guess I should have mentioned that this little girl calf has long eyelashes, another sure-fire sign. Yup… I wouldn’t wanna embarrass her by looking “back there”! :) :)

I am not even gonna get into the discussion on boy/girl calves….(living on a dairy farm, it could get out of hand lol!) but this is such a cute image and a great shot too!

I’m not familiar with dairy cattle, so I don’t know if those girl calves have pink noses… or anything else :) :)
