Sheesh, trying to find appropriate art categories in which to list my animal pancakes is a challenge! They aren’t sculptures, I don’t draw them, I don’t paint them, they aren’t digital creations… I just like playing with my food! I hope they aren’t illegal :(
The challenges involved in making animal pancakes are different from any other medium I know of. There’s a short time span in which the animal must be completed, or the first parts will be burning by the time the last parts are ready to flip over. You can see the moose’s back is a bit scorchy. Pancake batter is rather unruly, running into shapes that aren’t quite what I intend, like a camel’s legs are not supposed to be as fat as what you see.
The biggest problem is in flipping the animal over without parts falling off or folding under… not that either of those things has EVER happened to me, ‘kay? I recommend that you not attempt to flip a giraffe; it’s probably as hard to flip a real giraffe as it is to flip a pancake giraffe, and it can end up looking like an octopus with some pieces scattered around your pan.
I realize that animal pancakes don’t fit a vegetarian diet, but at least these are low-fat animals. And, anyone who eats an elephant, a moose and a stegasaurus for breakfast should be good to go till supper time :)
