11×14 acrylic and ink on masonite panel
Freyja is the Norse goddess of love, beauty, fertility, death, war and magic. That alone is quite fascinating considering she is both the goddess of fertility and death. She is quite a contradiction. She was also thought of as the Queen of the Elves. She ruled over the Valkryies who often took the shape of ravens and took the bodies of dead warriors to the afterlife. She was very skilled at magic and many women of Midgard (Middle Earth where we live) were her devotees and practiced seidr (magic) for Freyja. These women were shamaness/seeresses known as Volva or sometimes anglicized as Vala. An interesting sidenote is that J.R.R. Tolkien called his Angelic creator beings of Midgard the Valor (singularly known as Vala). I am completely geeking on Tolkien right now getting ready for the Hobbit to come out :)
Tammy Mae Moon is tired of writing about herself in third person. I like to paint. I like to paint women and birds and snakes, and a few other things.

Wow Tammy this is incredible and intensely emotive. Her tears of blood is highly moving and powerful image. Another beauty by you.
Thanks Anthea. I don’t know why she came out so emotional like that…not your typical Freyja…but it is what it is :) Hey, did you get your painting yet?

wow that is quite a goddess//(life-death)/ and speaking of ravens.. I can’t get them outta my art! Lovely work!
Me neither, what’s up with that? And real Ravens are cawing at me every where I go. They are wanting us to know something I suppose :)

This is different. I like the ink work in the hair, the bird silhouettes, the limited colour palette and the sparkling, staring eyes. Captivating again.
Yeah I have been playing around a lot lately. I am painting on this gessobord that soaks up the paint, so I am trying to work with it and make everything translucent. I am glad you like her Scot!
