In the Bible, Mary was still a teenager when she was called upon to bear the Son of Man. She became a mother in innocence, and lost her son in the height of his greatness. She knew his fate, and had to bear the sorrow. Mary is the one goddess that has been allowed in Christianity. She stands for compassion, nurturing, acceptance and love. I think her archetype deeply effects women, especially mothers.
As a mother of a boy I feel that boys are getting more and more lost everyday. I think the Mary archetype has a lot to do with mothers and their sons. We are losing our sons to war and violence, and we are suppose to just grin and bear it. We are suppose to be strong and just let our sons go, at least this seems to be the underlying message from our society. Our society teaches boys how to be emotionally bankrupt with no sense of self, so they can go off and fight meaningless wars for God and Country. It’s time for the mothers to say “no more, I will no longer accept this”. Women do not have to have their hearts pecked away for the good of society.

Tammy Mae Moon is tired of writing about herself in third person. I like to paint. I like to paint women and birds and snakes, and a few other things.

Agree with you completely Tammy. Such a beautiful image!!

  • Thank you John. I was kind of on a soap box there, but it is funny how working on a painting can bring up all sorts of emotions and thoughts I didn’t realize were there when I first started the painting. I am glad you like it!

Every time I paint Mary or Jesus brings an experience of images and emotions that words cannot express….and your words are very heartfelt and indeed very beautiful. Even though Mary appears in the Bible, can I just say that it’s pretty much only Catholics and the Orthodox that respect and lover Her for the great role She played in the Lord’s life and so much more.

I love the expression on Mary’s face and the heart is really well done. Beautiful meaning and symbols to express your work. Hugs

  • You are totally right Tahnja. Being raised Baptist, Mary was only briefly mentioned each year during the retelling of the Nativity. I have always felt a close connection to her though, and can see why it is probably an emotional release every time you paint her and Jesus. Thank you for your lovely words beautiful lady!
