Circe offering her potion

Circe offering her potion

12×18 pastel on Wallis sanded paper

Another Klimt inspired mythological piece. This is of the great witch/goddess of the Odyssey, Circe. In this I imagined the moment Odysseus comes and accuses Circe of turning his men into swine. Even with pigs at her feet I envision her being coy “How dare you accuse me of such a thing, here would you like a drink…”
I always found it interesting that Odysseus stayed for three years with Circe even though he was in such a hurry to get back home to his wife. Maybe Circe was correct in trying to change him into a pig!

This was always one of my favoutire parts of the story. Beautiful colours. She looks a bit like a flapper…and Drew Barrymore. Lovely.

  • MoonSpiral replied

I totally thought the Drew Barrymore thing too while I was drawing her…haha. I intentionally made her look a little flapperish. I have been staring at those old pics of Ziegfeld women from the 20’s. I love those old photos and that period!!

  • Lynsye Medalia

    Lynsye Medalia

I totally see what Lynette saw! The hairstyle with the circlet is very flapper girl and the lips and eyes are perfectly Drew Barrymore! You’ve done well with her coy expression….I too think she would react in that way and also wondered why Odysseus stayed so long. :)

  • MoonSpiral replied

I know, maybe I should try a Drew Barrymore portrait since I seemed to do her without trying…lol!!! He stayed so long because she was a hot goddess…haha!!!

Great work Tammy. Love the Drew Barrymore looking lips you’ve given her….always though Drew was such a beauty and has somehow managed to retain a child-like quality to her.

And I DO love those backgrounds….stunning!

  • MoonSpiral replied

Thankyou so much Tahnja. Funny I was inspired by the Ziegfeld women of the roaring 20s, but now that I think about it Drew has that kind of look, but than she came from old Hollywood stock….anyway….
