The Willow Faerie

The Willow Faerie

9×12 pastel on black Colorfix paper

I am always amazed by how the most beautiful and exotic places on the planet are also the most dangerous for humans. I often try to portray this idea in the faeries that I draw. This little faerie is just that, beautiful and exotic, and yet has a look of warning in her eyes.

The Willow Faerie belongs to the following groups:

1 on 1: The Fine Art of Portraiture , 1 In The Beginning - Ancient Practices, Art Inspired by Dreams, Contemporary Pastel Painters (2 per day), Feminine Intent (LIMIT TWO IMAGES PER DAY), In Another World .., Mermaids and mystic creatures, Myths, Legends and Fairytales, Practising the Dark Arts, Spiritual Art, Strictly Human Faces and THE SISTERHOOD Available for sale as

Greeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints, Framed Prints and Posters

the willow is my tree in celtic astrology… (21 april) you don’t know how much that is a synergy with my Hellinist side… what if during the invasions of the Romans … the celtic and greek (assuming that the Romans overlayed their belief over the top of the greeks (as the christians did to gain spiritual power over the ancients))... merged and that’s where I am at… I know that although i can’t find it… my spirit was taken there and moved to my present day incarnation in material life… deep breath…

my druic animal is the hare (in western astrology I am taurus ruled by Aphrodite/Venus), ogham word is SAIL, my celtic sign is ruled by the Moon goddess Ceridwen… my planetary ruler is the moon (der!) ... this is the rest of it…

The willow was sacred to the moon, and in celtic myth the universe was hatched from two crimson serpents eggs (in greek myth it was one egg) hidden among the boughs of a willow. the hare symbolises adaptation and intuition – willows must trust their inner voice or they can become moody and chronically indecisive.

willow people have good memories and are articulate, strong-willed and resourceful. Emotional and enigmatic, they have quick responses and are prone to sudden mood changes…

incidentally… my chinese horoscope is the Fire Dragon… a serpent!

this is beautiful… it’s opening doors for me actually, I can feel them swinging open.

This piece resonates with me, as it is one of the many trees that were killed behind my house in preparation for a housing development. The willow that grew behind my house was so beautiful and magical. I will miss her greatly.

  • MoonSpiral replied

Yes I read your journal, I was so sad for you and your family. It has to be like losing a family member!! I love willow trees, they are so symbolic of compassion….and somehow symbolic of this whole ordeal for you!
