ART WORK NOT FOR SALE***
On the 24th of January 2011, Dr Gerry Ortega, my cousin, a staunch environmentalist, mediaman and wildlife veterinarian was killed by an assassin because of his tireless work against mining in the beautiful islands of Palawan, and his fight against corruption in the country. They wanted to silence him.
Palawan is the Last Ecological Frontier of the Philippines. It is home to the country’s last remaining stretch of old-growth forests and bio-diversity. Scientists warn that there are still countless undiscovered species of flora and fauna in its forests and waters. Some of these species could unlock solutions to disease and climate change. Palawan has been designated as a Man and Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations.
*"And how do you process grief when something terrible happens? There’s no other way except to access love and forgiveness within yourself. Nothing can beat that. Light always defeats darkness, love always wins over hate, forgiveness triumphs over bitterness. We will seek justice but we will forgive. We cannot underestimate the power of love. *
