Standing there in the light drizzle, invisible to the others gathered closely together in animated conversation, he watched patiently for the approaching bus. He’d travelled to Brighton on this, his wedding anniversary, dipping recklessly into his meagre pension and remembering his honeymoon so many decades earlier. Margaret was gone now. Had been some ten years already. But walking around Brighton and the old abandoned pier he had been transported back, to happier days, kinder days. The damp began to creep into his bones now and he knew he’d seen Brighton for the last time in his life. At 80 he sensed that nearly every venue he visited now, he was seeing it for the last time. Margaret had wanted to go to America for their honeymoon, to Florida, but of course that was beyond their modest means. They’d made do with Brighton. Ironic he thought. They said that Florida was “God’s Waiting Room”, but he knew better. He was standing in God’s waiting room now, at this Bus Stop in Brighton. (Narrative written by UnEasy)
