A Walk through the Past

Wong Nai Chong Trail Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a great city for me.
Where I live on the mainland it is noisy, crowded and very polluted.
Whenever I go to Hong Kong I love to hike their beautiful trails. I hike during the week so the trail are almost deserted.
During the monsoon season it is advisable to take a rain coat. When it rains here ,it POURS. As well dress light. Hong Kong is very humid. Take plenty of water. You will need it. Another good precaution is to have the emergency numbers to call in case you get lost or hurt. Some of the signs can be confusing.
Wong Nai Chung Gap Trail is special to me. My uncle was a Canadian soldier who fought the Japanese during World War Two. I have always wanted to find the place where he fought but never could. Looking it up on Google I found this trail.
The trail can be steep at times.
You will find many exotics flowers there and enjoy the songs of beautiful parrots. Some places there is gentle little waterfalls.
Take the number 6 bus from Central MTR Station..Get off at the gas station. Walk up the road until you find a sign on the right hand side. As you begin to walk up the road the trail begins by a tower. There are plenty of signs so don’t worry on this trail of getting lost. I take a picture with my digital camera so I have a map to guide me. The first bunker you find will be
Here
As I continued down the trail to the next bunker .I sat on the bunker and thought of the terrible fighting that must have occurred here and felt a rather a sad feeling. Please when you see these bunkers just sit quietly for a few moments and reflect the sacrifice these brave boys willing gave for our freedom. It fills me with a sense of appreciation.
When you come out of the trail across the road you will find a monument to the dedicated doctors and nurses who courageously took care of the wounded .For many it cost them their precious lives.
It is advisable to hike the trail early in the morning because of the intense heat and humidity in Hong Kong.
As you get on the bus at the gas station keep a look out on your right hand side for a great beach to relax on after your adventure on the trail. That will be another story
I pray you have found this article informative and interesting.
Thank you for reading it and I hope to see you on the trails
