Amish boys being very sneaky except the one sucking his thumb…priceless!

The simple realization that time lost is lost forever, is one I find utterly frightening.

Great photography is ultimately not about cameras; great photography is about great photographs.

A great photographer is a person who makes great photographs, not necessarily a person who owns a great camera or lens.

How do you get the Amish to allow you to photograph them? They generally don’t like to be photographed.

  • I guess that depends on what part of the country your at and who you know. I purchase goods from them and have made a few friends within this tight little community. As long as your not in their face and they are not posing for the photo then it’s ok. I always ask, especially the parents of the kids. The younger Amish don’t mind at all and if you look at the image titled “Amish Olympic Hockey Team”, They wanted copies and I donated some of the equipment their using. The unfortunate thing that happens to them is vacationers to Lancaster County stop their cars and go up and stick a camera in their face. I have many funny stories that have been told to me by the Amish of what they have done in response…that would make a great book! Thank you for your inquiry.
