Good point. There was not one bit of that poor girl that was left and belonged to her. Even her name was stolen. Madonna has done the same thing, but there is a huge difference-
she did it consciously and made every change herself rather than passively allowing her identity to be deconstructed like some half-robot creature in a horror/superhero flick. I think it is a sad commentary on American society that “Monroe” has been made a symbol of sexuality (though mostly embraced, along with female film legends of the forties and fifties, by the male gay community here, now-what THAT means, I have no idea—perhaps, they just have a better sense of humor than most)montdragon replied
You got it!!!! My little Norma Jean is a metaphor faceless with the trappings of what is not definable but an illusion. The closes to words to her epitaph is Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind” words written and sung with pathos of such beauty and not just a popular cultural bit of noise…ironically “Candle in the Wind” was playing I can’t recall when or where or why and this is the result and “candle in the wind” inspired by Janis Joplin a Goddess and the flip side of Norma Jean “oh lord oh lord can you buy me a Mercedes Benz” I think (?). Yup about your comment….Namaste.
