Just the Two of Us by Donna Ridgway

Robert was driving a water truck from Billings to Kalispell, (Montana, USA)and I was following him in my pickup. As we left Helena, headed for Lincoln, I noticed a dust ball along the highway. The ball of dust flew alongside the road, changed shape, sifted around and suddenly revealed some young fox, playing beside their den.

I slammed to a stop, grabbed the camera and began shooting. Robert saw me stop, so he stopped and walked back to where I sat. We watched these fox playing for an hour.

This photo is one of their rare quiet moments.

I doctored my photo with another photo layer of texture, and blurring techniques until I liked it and here’s the result.

Enjoying what Montana has to offer, greatly influences my work. Rodeos, horses, mountains, all of this plays a part in what I create. I lived here in Montana, taking care of cattle and horses on the ranch until I retired a few years ago.

I now spend my time recreating in Montana, and creating photos and paintings from what I see here in this state.

Adorable capture Donna, they look so focused on something.

  • Yes, they’d been playing so hard, just biting each other to pieces, tumbling around, then this….it was awesome to be there. :)

Beautiful work, Donna and how wonderful your timing. I would have loved that.

  • Hi Margorie, yes, it was so wonderful to see these little guys. They have so much fun together. And in real life, they had an old chunk of cardboard they were playing with. It was so cute they’d turned that it into a toy. Thank you!
