Alone but not Lonely, Fox photo by Donna Ridgway by

Evening fell and this little fox sat on the hill surveying his world. You can see he’s alone, but he’s not lonely for he’s interested in the world around him. I loved the way my camera interpreted this low light scene.

I love this photo because I’m a “loner” myself. Nothing makes me happier than just being by myself in the natural world. Seeing this little fox, sitting there as content as he could be, reminds me of myself!

This is the first time, I’ve taken a photo of an animal, from the back, where the photo had so much feeling.

Photo taken with a Nikon D300, Sigma 170-500 mm lens. Shot Raw, south of Vaughn, Montana, across the Sun River. As Is. Hand Held.
ISO 400
F/6.3
Shutter Speed 1/250

Enjoying what Montana has to offer, greatly influences my work. Rodeos, horses, mountains, all of this plays a part in what I create. I lived here in Montana, taking care of cattle and horses on the ranch until I retired a few years ago.

I now spend my time recreating in Montana, and creating photos and paintings from what I see here in this state.

I love this. It makes me smile, makes me laugh, makes me happy. I find myself sitting their beside him looking at anything that moves down in that draw. Great lighting, too.

  • You just described perfectly how it felt to be sitting there watching this little guy! :) Thank you Merle!
