Homesteading wasn’t an easy life, but it had it’s moments. Here’s my family, working together, to brand the calves…my great grandfather is looking on, my favorite Cowboy Uncle is on the horse, my grandfather is holding the branding iron, and I don’t know the person holding the calf.

When I was growing up, the best times of my life were spent on this ranch. My grandmother handed down her old photos to me, and I cherish them. They depict a way of life that’s gone forever.

The ranch was west of Dupuyer, Montana, near Swift Dam.

Enjoying what Montana has to offer, greatly influences my work. Rodeos, horses, mountains, all of this plays a part in what I create. I lived here in Montana, taking care of cattle and horses on the ranch until I retired a few years ago.

I now spend my time recreating in Montana, and creating photos and paintings from what I see here in this state.

Good job, Donna. Ah those days were good. I used to sit on the calf’s head.

  • When I was a kid, I had the other end. lol, grown up, I ran a vaccine gun. It was always kind of fun to work the calves and cows, even if you were worn out at the end of the day! :)
