Premarin Mare

Premarin Mare

This beautiful mare was once on a Premarin farm in Canada. I’d like to think she enjoys her life as a Montana pack animal! She looks like she does, she looks really content….

What a lovely mare and capture, what is a premarin ?

Premarin is a prescription drug, given to women for hormone replacement therapy. It’s derived from pregnant mare’s urine. On Premarin farms, the mares were kept in stalls, with big bags hanging under them for urine collection. The offspring of these mares, were shot or discarded as they were an unwanted result of needing the pregnant mares. This industry is almost shut down now, and where it’s still happening, the mares and foals are treated much more humanely. If you google PMU mares, I think a lot of information comes up.

I wish they would shut all of those horrible places down!!!! Makes me ill to think what these poor horses go through:(

This beautiful mare has it made:)

  • Donna Ridgway replied

Yes, it made me very happy to see her here, as she seemed so content. Her dappled coat was so beautiful, and she had such a kind nature.

Yeah those assholes back than never thought of anyone else but humans as having feelings and rights. to kill the horse’s baby is cuel! horses have long memory of their baby and they feel sad when one dies. We know that now a days. they will have to answer to God for the muders. Makes me sick too.

This is a nice shot of her she is wonderful and I am glad to hear things are different now :)

  • Donna Ridgway replied

Public outcry can change a lot in this world! :) It’s nice to know those horses have better lives now.

My goodness! I never new such farm existed! What a change in life for this beautiful animal! Lovely capture!

  • Donna Ridgway replied

There were three of these mares in this pack string. It was so fun to get to “meet” them. They loved being petted!

it very much is, I’m all for the cause and pee collection BUT NOT at the expence of the life of a mother and her baby, how awful.

what a wonderful life change for this beautiful mare (and her friends), I fail to see the need for PMU farms, there are other ways to deal with menopause symptoms that do not require the slaughter is innocent foals – my very hormonal boss was on PMU but stopped when she found out what it was, apparently her discomfort wasn’t so bad after all LOL

  • Donna Ridgway replied

I can’t imagine the life these horses had. I have a feeling they think carrying packs into the mountains, and moving freely about, is heaven! And there are plenty of ways to deal with menopause symptoms that don’t involve horses! good for your boss! :)
