Early Days on the Ranch

Early Days on the Ranch

Here’s my grandpa, when he was young, and when he first began ranching. He was so full of the devil, absolutely fearless, full of humor, and perfectly equipped for the hardships of frontier life.

He was raising horses here, on land he had homesteaded with his father. His ever present cigarette was in his mouth, a Lucky Strike…

He always smelled of cigarettes and leather, and horses…and sometimes whiskey….

The ranch was west of Dupuyer, Montana, near Swift Dam. I did not take this photo, but it was handed down to me, from my grandmother, before her death.

I love my heritage, and my ancestors, and I wanted to share where I came from…
