Snow Boogie
We traveled to Gypsy Basin, along the Rocky Mountain Front, near Dupuyer, Montana, and saw this horse along the way. The air was crisp and clear, it was late in the day, and the light was wonderful.
I love this photo, because even though the horse appears to be running away, you can tell from his body language, he’s going to stop and come back…he can’t resist! I also loved the colors given to this scene by the setting sun.—-—-—-—-

Donna Ridgway replied
Hi Eva! I’m so glad you enjoyed this little horse doing the boogie. He was so funny. Of course he turned around after this and came right up to us. :)
Eva Andréasson
You are very welcome Donna! It’s such a beautiful little horse, not to mention the photo :D Horses are curious little buggers aren’t they? Just love them :D :D :D
Donna Ridgway replied
Don’t know what to do without them, and hope I never have to find out. lol Are you the same?
Eva Andréasson
I used to ride quite a lot in my early teens at a “riding school”, but had to stop when I went to “senior high” at about 16 because of the long days. Went with bus to the school that was about 40 km one way from home, all day 5 days a week… While I did ride I took my bicycle and later my moped to get there, some 10 km one way and no buses what so ever. The “riding school” had only a few “ordinary” riding-horses, but I rode on some Swedish “working horses” that is called “nordsvensk”. They are not so tall, but slightly wide ;) Lovely horses and to this day (part from arabs, mustangs and quarter horses ;D ) my favourite horses. Nowadays it’s more of a economic question to why I don’t ride. But I take any chance I get to cuddle horses I come across ;) :D
Donna Ridgway replied
We have a little donkey, had him for about four years now, and just a while back, we got Henry, a retired race horse. He’s very sweet. :) You “rode” a long way, to get a chance to ride a horse! Those working horses sound neat! I bet they were cuddly…:)
Eva Andréasson
Oh I love donkeys too LOL! They are just too adorable :D :D :D Those working horses really are. The one I usually rode wasn’t… so she didn’t “get out” much (she had a tendency to bite if you didn’t pay attention). But I loved riding her ‘cause she had a lot of “spunk” and wasn’t as “tired” as the other “school horses”. Not that surprising I guess. She never bit me and I loved to put my hands under her thick mane to warm them in the winter :D I found this place on the net with a lot of nice photos of that working horse. It’s in Swedish but you “click” on the photo you want to view larger. here’s the link. If you want to that is…
Donna Ridgway replied
I did want to, thanks! :) What beautiful horses those are. I love the long forelocks and the sweet look on their faces. They have a lot of bone, but also a lot of finesse. I’m familiar with the Fjords, but have not seen these before!
Donna Ridgway replied
I can see how you would have loved to ride the more “spunky” one!
Eva Andréasson
You’re welcome! They are about the same size as the Fjords but as you could see in the photos very variable colours. The one I rode was light brown coloured with a “gray” nose and had a black, long and thick forelock and mane :) Kind of like this one :D It’s closely related to the Norwegian Dølahest or Dole. My mom grew up with these horses as my grandfather worked the forest with them during winter. And of course they were used on the farm too. They are strong sturdy horses that can carry just about any rider and they usually have a good temperament. Quite patience and calm :D
