In the service of light

Like little lamps
Busily flying around,
Glowing in their discharge,
To bring light to the night.

No combustion from friction
Or, heat of pressure,
Just a phosphorescent giving off,
Delightful in flight
In the service of ‘light’!

An illuminating display
Of luminous wisdom,
‘Be ye lamps unto yourselves’
Enlightening life
And contributing light!

“Therefore, be ye lamps unto yourselves, be a refuge unto yourselves, take yourself no external refuge. Hold fast to Truth as a lamp; hold fast to the Truth as a refuge. Look not for a refuge in anyone beside yourselves. And those, who shall be a lamp unto themselves, shall betake themselves to no external refuge, but holding fast to the Truth as their lamp, and holding fast to the Truth as their refuge, they shall reach the topmost height.” ~The Buddha

What inspires me is the feeling or emotion we are able to capture and convey either through words, an image, or both. The ‘pictures’ we evoke more than the seen. They would better communicate who, what, or where I am now. It is through them that we are ultimately going to “see’ each other. It is through them that we may connect. I look forward to the connection.

  • That’s great Anna!! You are able to do so , because you have “light from within.” Appreciate very much your thoughts and support of my work!!

    Beautiful poem and quote, Ramesh.
writing about fireflies is a delightful way to show the meaning of
“Therefore, be ye lamps unto yourselves, be a refuge unto yourselves, take yourself no external refuge."

  • The quote by the Buddha just popped into my head , one dark night in the mountains, as I was watching this ‘illuminating’ display of fireflies, each contributing their individual ‘light’, to diffuse the ‘darkness’ surrounding; each a lamp unto themselves. :)) So glad you found it de-lightful!! Appreciate very much, as always, your thoughts on this Tori!! :))

So it is, Ramesh! Wonderfully written and portrait of the Light that I am…concept, and the only truth. Congratulations to you from Christiane. Had to share!

  • Thank you so much Christiane!! A concept that on realization illuminates one from the inside to be rid of those concepts that divide and do not contribute to ‘light’. Appreciate very much your sharing Christiane!! :)
