Little house on the prairie by George Parapadakis (monocotylidono)

Another quick stopover on the way to work. No, not somewhere in the American Midwest, but just off the A4146 between Milton Keynes and Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire (UK)… But the foggy scenery did remind me of the TV series we grew up with :-)

My grandfather was a serious amateur photographer in the ’20s and ’30s, leaving me a legacy of stereoscopic pictures and equipment. The bug passed through the genes to my father and to me. I started taking pictures seriously when I was 11 and I spent most of my teenage years in and out of the darkroom. University, work and kids put photography on pause but my first digital camera in 2006 re-kindled my interest. RB has given me a vehicle for sharing my work and for learning so much.

Very appealing, George, with the curving lines and thirds and fog. I do think a literary work preceded a telly show ;(

“Little House (on the Prairie) is a series of children’s books by Laura Ingalls Wilder that was published originally between 1932 and 1943, with four additional books published posthumously, in 1962, 1971, 1974 and 2006”— can you tell my dislike for the

    But your photo remains lovely.

  • LOL – Yes, I know. I did not mean to offend the literati ;-) Given that I grew up in Greece however, with subtitled television, the literary original did not feature in my childhood (although translations of other American children’s literature did). I’m glad you like the picture though :^)

Egad, though, George. I am sorry I blurted out my dislike of the teevee. If you delete those comments, I could return to praising your photo on its merits.

Excellent photo. The little light on the house gives it the right note of optimism….

  • Thank you :-) It was a ridiculously foggy day so it was nice to see anything through it :-)

I didn’t much like the books, either…. But they are a staple in American children’s (especially girl’s) literature, & I did read them as a kid. But I digress… this is a fine shot, evocative of much, American Midwest or Milton Keynes. The sepia tones are exactly right for this, I think. Good work.

  • Thank you very much Sheila, I’m happy when my shots evoke any kind of emotion :-)

The sun is fighting a losing battle over there?
I love the light glinting off the side of the house … beautiful calming scene George (he said while sitting in the relative warmth of 25 degrees).

  • Not just losing the battle, lost the plot! :-) Major frost today and heading for snow in the weekend. Thanks Vikram, enjoy your relative warmth!
