Where Jazz comes to life :-)

I’ve been meaning to attempt this composite for a long time… Inspired by one of my favourite songs by Sting. It still gives me goosebumps everytime I hear the lyrics…

Moon over Bourbon Street

There’s a moon over Bourbon Street tonight
I see faces as they pass beneath the pale lamplight
I’ve no choice but to follow that call
The bright lights, the people, and the moon and all
I pray everyday to be strong
For I know what I do must be wrong
Oh you’ll never see my shade or hear the sound of my feet
While there’s a moon over Bourbon Street

It was many years ago that I became what I am
I was trapped in this life like an innocent lamb
Now I can never show my face at noon
And you’ll only see me walking by the light of the moon
The brim of my hat hides the eye of a beast
I’ve the face of a sinner but the hands of a priest
Oh you’ll never see my shade or hear the sound of my feet
While there’s a moon over Bourbon Street

She walks everyday through the streets of New Orleans
She’s innocent and young from a family of means
I have stood many times outside her window at night
To struggle with my instinct in the pale moon light
How could I be this way when I pray to God above
I must love what I destroy and destroy the thing I love
Oh you’ll never see my shade or hear the sound of my feet
While there’s a moon over Bourbon Street

My grandfather was a serious amateur photographer in the ’20s and ’30s, leaving me a legacy of stereoscopic pictures and equipment. The bug passed through the genes to my father and to me. I started taking pictures seriously when I was 11 and I spent most of my teenage years in and out of the darkroom. University, work and kids put photography on pause but my first digital camera in 2006 re-kindled my interest. RB has given me a vehicle for sharing my work and for learning so much.

Very well put together George – gives it a great feeling (for some weird reason I’ve got Art-deco running around my head?)

    PS: Love the song!

  • Not sure where the Art-Deco comes from either LOL. maybe the type of writing on the sign? Many thanks Vikram :-0

    Works beautifully George!

  • Thanks Ursula, I had tried a different moon before and it just didn’t work at all. This one is a bit moodier… :-)

    alright George!
    Jazzy!!

  • Thanks John, glad you like it. I love the original version but I thought the version I linked above was particularly cool – Sting is so relaxed! :-)
