Paper Tower, by Shigeru Ban with Sonoco (London Design Festival)
Japanese architect and designer Shigeru Ban has worked with cardboard manufacturer Sonoco to create a 22m high tower, constructed from hundreds of compressed cardboard tubes. In the most skillful of hands a material used to create the humble box becomes something quite extraordinary.
I came across this outside the Royal Festival Hall in London (UK). You can see the full structure here, but I was more interested in the paterns created when I was inside the sculpture.

Thanks Scott, I assume you have red/cyan glasses? It’s probably better when viewd large, as RB introduces some ghosting when smaller.

This is an amazing structure, I just wonder if it will hold up to the weather. Excellent 3D perspective.
monocotylidono replied
Thanks JP! Actually “Paper Tower” is a bit of a misnomer… Inside the carton tubes there are steel braces which are then bolted together. It’s pretty solid!

What a fantastic construction! And your shot at this angle and pov does it justice! Amazing geometric patterns and love your 3D treatment!
