Meet me by the pier
Yay or Nay?
I’m experimenting with some more extreme PP ideas, braking some of my own rules. Let me know if you think they work or not. Any ideas or suggestions more than welcome!
I was waiting for the rest of my family to come back from Brighton Pier (dog-sitting, as dogs are not allowed on the pier!), when I spotted this couple of friends casually chatting in front of me. They couldn’t be more relaxed or less self-conscious. I guess it’s so easy to go un-noticed in such a busy crowded place :-)

I like this. Almost timeless, and with a clear subject. Nicely done!
monocotylidono replied
Thanks Jan, I’m glad you like it :-)
Steve & Lesley
works for me great shot
monocotylidono replied
Thanks Steve – Not my usual style, but hey! If you don’t try you don’t learn, right? LOL

O.k., I have to ask… Were you thinking of the musical “Meet Me in St. Louis” when you titled this? I am now singing, to myself of course, Meet me in St. Louis, Louis, meet me at the fair! Thanks, I’ll never be able to get the tune out of my mind now! :-D Anyway, I think it’s an awesome shot, love the toning and am curious about the processing on this. Did you just do a bit of warping, bringing the focus to the young couple?
monocotylidono replied
LOL I wasn’t, but I am now… :-) Yes, I’ve used the fisheye lens correction filter, to create the opposite effect. I wanted to stress the angle of the bike, but I liked the effect it had on the overall setup. Thank you Ann

Looks like a wide shot, George, lovely vista..
monocotylidono replied
Thanks mate, the wide distortion is exaggerated in PP, I just felt that it somehow drew more attention to the main subject.
brendanscully
Looking at it again..this is one of your best…..wow…it grows on me!!
monocotylidono replied
Man, what a compliment!!! I thank you sir! :-)

I really like this one George (not that I’m biased cos it’s Brighton or anything…. ;~)) The pp works really well and I love the story going on.
monocotylidono replied
Thank you Clare, I really appreciate the Brightonians’ view on this :-) Your favoring means a lot! Many thanks!
robpixaday
Wow!!Ilove the intensity of this…!!!!!!!!!
monocotylidono replied
Thank you Rob! and many thanks for the fav!!! :-)
Ursula Rodgers
Fabulous shot and pp my friend! Not that I’m an expert, but it looks like it has been cross-processed, which is great!
monocotylidono replied
Er… maybe? LOL I don’t know how to cross-process, but the toning is down to rather extreme settings when converting from RAW. The perspective is through the fisheye correction filter. I’m not an expert either! ROFL

i love the angle of the bike and the lines are great, and the familiar of brighton brings it together ..so yay. it has feeling..

Great composition and lighting, also it tells its own story. Congratulations.
monocotylidono replied
Many thanks Lorraine! :-)
Vikram Franklin
Yep!! Love the cross-processed look! I especially like how you’ve used the fish-eye correction tool to actually twist the perspective – definitely makes this edgy!
monocotylidono replied
Thanks Vikram :-)
Johanne Brunet
Great PP George, I love the ambiance you have created here. It makes it look even warmer than if it were all in full colours.
monocotylidono replied
Thanks Johanne. It was actually a hot day, but somehow with the strong contrasty sun and the abundance of colour, it just looked cold!!
Bradley Shawn ...
Wow! Really beautiful shot my friend. Great use of tones. It gives it a real antique quality to the shot. You did a sneaky on didn’t you?
monocotylidono replied
Well, not really, They were pretty oblivious to me, even though I was only standing about 3 feet away… :-) I’m glad you like it and thank you for the favoring my friend.
Mindy McGregor
Great candid shot!

A huge YAY George. I’ve always loved the more subtle toning, especially sepia with only the slightest hint of color – yest not so subtle as to go unnoticed.
monocotylidono replied
Thank you very much Kevin. This was quite a departure in style for me, but I just love experimenting with new ideas! :-)
