Despair & Solitude
“The Little Mermaid” in Copenhagen, Denmark. A glamorous fairy-tale beauty of a bygone era, lost in the context of 20th century industrial reality.
It’s one of the key city landmarks, and one of the most photographed. But not from this angle… I just love the contrast between the two worlds and the pure resignation in her posture!
An old photo of mine (2000) which I always wanted to go back and tidy up. I came across the film the other day and finally scanned it in.

OMG George!! Another one who is not holidaying hard enough!!!
What on earth are you doing online?? Or are those wellies being put to use now? (hope not).

Great message here George. You have managed to make that statue look expressive, well done!
Ursula Rodgers
Well spotted George! :)
Bradley Shawn ...
Brilliant contrast my friend. I love it. Such an important message to get across in our crumbling culture. There is a certain amount of life you have brought to the image by shooting at this angle. Well spotted.

Fabulous shot. When you see what she has to look at for eternity … and
she can’t even blink, let alone turn her head … you can well understand
why she is in such despair!
monocotylidono replied
Thank you very much Ginny – It’s strange, but until I saw this shot developed, I never realised just how much “body language” was in the statue.
Shelly Hiebert
Great composition showing the ‘two worlds’ together like this :) Nice work George :)
Natasha Zraikat
very interesting… and youre right about her posture, she seems deflated, disappointed… very clever!
