Despair & Solitude

Despair & Solitude

“The Little Mermaid” in Copenhagen, Denmark. A glamorous fairy-tale beauty of a bygone era, lost in the context of 20th century industrial reality.

It’s one of the key city landmarks, and one of the most photographed. But not from this angle… I just love the contrast between the two worlds and the pure resignation in her posture!

An old photo of mine (2000) which I always wanted to go back and tidy up. I came across the film the other day and finally scanned it in.

    Bradley Shawn ...

Brilliant contrast my friend. I love it. Such an important message to get across in our crumbling culture. There is a certain amount of life you have brought to the image by shooting at this angle. Well spotted.

Fabulous shot. When you see what she has to look at for eternity … and
she can’t even blink, let alone turn her head … you can well understand
why she is in such despair!

  • monocotylidono replied

Thank you very much Ginny – It’s strange, but until I saw this shot developed, I never realised just how much “body language” was in the statue.
