Kingdom

Donald Cameron

Kingdom

in the wasteland short of wonder sits the man who would be king
of the highland and the lowland
and the land deemed inbetween
yet he ain’t no kind of human
he’s an island, he’s marine

saying I am just an ocean, a scar amongst the land
I have brought shame upon a nation just for nickels
and begging hands
still they lead into temptation
still they disappear in sand

and in a decomposing kingdom, shores of mercy grant me deeds
and I might see fit to spare them
if convincing in their pleads
by worldless action, paused reflection
hail in prayer the tide recedes

nonetheless, amongst the mist, that might not be enough to save
the poor souls who insist
they charge the island by the waves
but they’ll surrender, they’ll surrender
and I will take them to their graves

What a subtle image! Such delicate changes in tones really make this a special image. Wonderful job!

  • Donald Cameron replied

The mysteries wrapped in rolling haar, glad you like the subtleties, wasn’t sure how well it would come through in the smaller screen version.

    A wonderful delicate image Donald.

  • Donald Cameron replied

Thanks Ian, this was some distance away from where I shot it and the island was almost invisible on the camera screen, was pleasantly surprised the faint tones came through on the computer.

yes like this fleeting view as the mist comes and goes, seen it happen so many times but ever thought to catch it, should make a wonderful large print. ( excellent mid tones top & bottom, creates great depth) – regards dave

  • Donald Cameron replied

Luckily there’s plenty of opportunity to shoot in mist along the Scottish coast :) I’ve not had this printed yet but yes I think it should be a good one, cheers Dave.
