Scotch on the Rocks
twenty seven years on this ungodly earth
ending, sat down by the river
absorbing the small sips now taking their berth
on the tasting buds, keen to deliver
the living in trees are now passing to ground
and winter stands waiting in line
and the stream trickles on, in knowledge it’s bound
for pitlochry, til barrels entwine
an edradour malt slides faint troubles and fears
away, ships past stormy seas
so here I raise a glass to the twenty eighth year
may it flow as the river decrees

Hans Kawitzki
Brilliant work…....wish the Scotch would flow like this in my backyard :)
Donald Cameron replied
That would be quite something, a river of whisky to to dip the glass. I fear the fish might get a little tipsy though :)
John Kowalski
Fabulous work Donald, excellent image!!
Donald Cameron replied
Thanks John
Angela King-Jones

wonderful shot Donald, I always want to take one like this but so hard to make it good. WELL DONE!
Donald Cameron replied
Made a change for me as I usually shoot coastal scenes, you’re right it is tricky to get right. Rather than shoot the whole river I thought concentrating on a small area would make it easier to get the right focus and smoothness in the water. Glad you think it worked.
Elana Bailey
Fab title and capture, Donald. Well done.
Donald Cameron replied
Thanks Elana. Funnily enough the title was the last thing to come to me after finishing the image and poem, can’t believe I hadn’t thought of it earlier. Particularly with the poem being related to whisky!

really great composition, waste of good scotch though ;) Nice play of light against the rocks here
Donald Cameron replied
The ultimate irony is that at the Edradour distillery there’s a sign in the toilets above the taps saying “water not suitable for drinking” !! Presumably they don’t think it has a high enough alcohol content :)
-Lilith-

well as an old guy once told my dad and he told us, if they spend all that time turning water into something so wonderful (malt of course) why return it to water ? LOL it is why beer is better to drink than tape water,, we boil the water first :)
Donald Cameron replied
Can’t agree about the beer, can’t stand the stuff. Agree with the old guy about the malt though :)
Joel Tjintjelaar
Brilliant Donald, just brilliant. The dark tones, the bright whites, the contrasts, the perfect exposure and the composition make this a fantastic image.
Donald Cameron replied
Thanks Joel, as often happens I went to shoot something else which didn’t turn out, and this was just a brief unplanned shot which turned out much better!
Bob Wickham
Something very mysterious about this, well done .. and happy birthday
Donald Cameron replied
Thanks Bob :)
cosimopiro
Yes indeed….birthday wishes to you! Nice piece of writing with a smooth image. Hope the scotch was as smooth. Cheers mate!
Donald Cameron replied
Of course it was smooth, whisky is the one thing Scotland does better than anywhere else in the world! Though I should add that I was only metaphorically drinking by the river, never drink and drive :)

Great mono image…..though that white dot lower middle is bugging me….does it bug you…..lol

The white thing is a leaf, doesn’t bother me too much but guess I could remove it. I’ll have a look at full size and see.
