Feasting Shadows
a blast of shadows
feast on towers of immovable ink
watch them, watch them
fill their bilious stomachs with
the rhythm of black watch gun salutes
white dove prowls restless beneath
waiting for word
on the whereabouts of bright day
last seen served on platters
to aforementioned suspects
call in for backup
pulse gone, voice gone
save the stacked mass of ages
from the unsettled moment
and a face of scars
curse you, the darkest of times

love the trails of surf and contrasts of light and shadow in this Donald,
Donald Cameron replied
Yep the sea is a wonderful beast sometimes, the way the surf lines came into view and curled round the rock was just made for this photograph.

Lines and curves in the water adding to the overall impact of this shot. Very well spotted. Love the dark tones in this one. Great photo Donald.
Donald Cameron replied
Thanks Joel. The lines in the water were a great compositional aid, just made for shooting. One of my personal faves for quite a while, in location and how the final shot turned out.

Dave Miller
love the white water curves and the strength of the stack, strong placement within the frame – like the words with the images – Excellent work ( for ME not keen on the very dark top & bottom, looks a bit false) – regards Dave
Donald Cameron replied
Appreciate for the feedback Dave. The lower part came out naturally dark in processing, and then I darkened the top part which gave this result. I’m often looking to produce shots which are a bit surreal and away from reality, and it’s a strange and wonderful location so I feel the processing enhances this feeling. Funnily enough with you saying this it reminded me Glenn produced an unusual shot where the darkened top & bottom were almost like eyelids, wasn’t too dissimilar to this effect.
Dave Miller
That would be Spittal sunrise…... I think, told him the same, it’s just me being predictable. bloody old fart Glenn would say. – cheers dave
Donald Cameron replied
Hehe, that’s quite alright, all comments are welcomed!
Fiona Christensen
how did you find this place! Its absoluetly stunning, great shot! love it!
Donald Cameron replied
Thank you Fiona! I just came across it the first time I was travelling around on holiday in Ireland, and have been returning to it every time I go over there. It is an amazing place :)

Why have I not commented on this one? as has been mentioned the curve of the wave is beautiful, really makes this stand out! As for Dave’s comment about the darken sky; I like it, it draws ones eye to the stack and that lighting from the horizon is absolutely lovely. We have often talked about being constructive, if i was nit picking the horizon looks slightly curved and dipping to the right?
glenn
Donald Cameron replied
Yes the horizon is slightly curved on both sides, like the curvature of the earth. This seems to happen when shooting at the widest point of my wide angle lens, almost getting into fisheye territory. I plan to try out another wide lens shortly to compare the results.
GlennC
Its funny because it was pointed out on one of Dave’s images, and when I stand on the beach I am sure i can see the curvature of the earth! rather than go to the expense of a new lens its very easy to sort in photoshop!
Donald Cameron replied
I’ve corrected the curve now so it’s straightened up with the grid overlay. The world is now flat, they were right all along :)
Sue Nueckel

Ooh, very nice … I like the striations in the rock stack, they create a lot of drama in this image. Great!
