Run! Hide! Retreat!
Once upon a tide
at the milkiest point of the planet
lay the underwater city of Seafield
under statues of dullest gray granite
though the timing could never be certain
it all points to a good while ago
some say it’s myth and some say it’s truth
but time’s passed and we’ll never quite know
There’s talk of a fisherman named Old Penny Brown
a man of contradictions and many few words
who kept himself to himself
and fed his fish to the birds
he sailed the high seas for days and days and days
searching for a place he knew couldn’t be found
and when he never returned
folk assumed he had drowned
But what really occurred
before you start feeling pity
was his little boat crashed
into this great long lost city
oh heck! oh hell!
as he mopped up his brow
where on earth am I?
and what will I do now?
He stepped out of his craft
trying to deal with the strain
and watched disbelieving
as water started to drain
quickly scrambling for safety
he started to pray
scratching his skull
whilst the sea fled away
There were palaces and castles
sunken ships and treasure
fairgrounds, casinos
unimaginable pleasures
I’m sure i’ve not seen such a place in my life!
he marvelled and wondered how there could come to be
such a magical wonder
hidden under the sea
Every ounce of his good sense
implored him to leave
it’s risky! it’s danger!
run! hide! retreat!
but the sea soon returned
and left him no choice
he became their new leader
it became his new voice
Of course it all took its toll
and the city soon crumbled
Old Penny passed on
and the buildings all tumbled
yet if you look closely
and keep your eyes peeled
you might glimpse what remains
of the long lost Seafield

wonderful use of the light on the rocks
Donald Cameron replied
Yes the lighting was fantastic that day, it’s ideal when there’s lots of thick clouds and just a few pockets of light coming through.
Kevin Bergen
The subtle blue really does it for me with this image. Terrific!
Donald Cameron replied
A sunny blue sky was threatening to break through but didn’t quite make it :)
Paul Manning

Mike Oxley
Beautiful capture and atmosphere. Love the narrative. Very nicely done, Donald.
Donald Cameron replied
Thanks Mike. I think the narrative is from what they call an over-active imagination :)
Carlos Acín
This is a rare work in your portfolio, a beautiful and rare color work. Congratulations Donald, a fave for me.
Regards.
Donald Cameron replied
Indeed I don’t do colour shots very often, usually I do b&w to take the scene away from reality but this one seemed quite surreal by itself so chose to leave this one be :)
Richard George
Superb work. The light is fantastic. Well done.
Donald Cameron replied
Thanks for your feedback Richard.

Donald Cameron replied
I wish I could come across conditions like this more often, you’re right there’s something about the tones in this that just works. It was like that naturally though, I can’t take much credit :)

OMGosh, I’m shell shocked by both the beautiful image and the verse; will have to digest and then add a proper comment. Let’s start with: superb.
Donald Cameron replied
Hehe, any comment is good doesn’t have to be a “proper” one :) Thanks a lot.

Donald, I think this is one of your very best images! the sky is superb. The placement of the rocks visa vie the movement of the sky adds a touch of tension. As already mentioned the light on the rocks really makes this the image it is…
Donald Cameron replied
Thanks Glenn, I quite like shooting the more unusual locations so this is one of my faves as well.
James Coard
This is a really stunning image Donald – the decision to keep it colour was the right one in my opinion!
Donald Cameron replied
Thanks James, good to hear that. I do like colour images but usually prefer the results of my ones in b&w, this was bit of a rarity!
A.M. Ruttle
I’m partly over the shell shock so I’ll also add: beautiful clarity of vision and image! Thanks for the interview you posted!!
Donald Cameron replied
Thanks a lot. Glad you liked the interview as well.

The colours work really well here! Always good to see some colours in a predominantly B&W stream. Excellent.
Donald Cameron replied
You’re right I guess the colour ones do stand out a bit more amongst mainly b&w shots.

the bones of the ghosts of yesteryear. the land of deities. a memory, a dream. It conjures up something that can’t totally be grasped. Beautiful capture of a mirage mate. Great story too.
