Sopped in History by Monnie Ryan

This 1916 Sopwith Triplane is one of the displays at the Military Aviation Preservation Society MAPS Air Museum in North Canton, Ohio. The museum is operated entirely by volunteers and receives no government funding. A volunteer guide told me this plane is quite unusual in that the engine rotates in sync with the propeller, so the only way to slow the plane down is to shut off the engine. That would make for difficult landing conditions, I’d guess!
