Artist's Description

The Hooper Strait Lighthouse is the second screwpile-style lighthouse to be built at the entrance to Tangier Sound on the Chesapeake Bay. Built in 1880, it was slated for destruction in 1966 but was acquired by the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland, and moved to the museum grounds. The lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1995.
