Artist's Description

Just off the shores of Conneaut, Ohio, is the Conneaut West Breakwater Lighthouse. The name “Conneaut” is derived from the Seneca Indian name, “Konyiat,” of the creek that empties into Lake Erie. The original Conneaut Lighthouse was built at the end of a pier in the 1890s, but it was replaced in 1935 by this new tower, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The beacon at the top of the tower can be seen for 17 miles, and its foghorn can be heard for about 15 miles.
