Kalmar Nyckel by Monnie Ryan

Currently unavailable for purchase

The original Kalmar Nyckel was one of America’s pioneering colonial ships, sailing from Sweden to the New World in 1638. There, it deposited passengers who established the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley (now Wilmington). The “new” Kalmar Nyckel recreates those early voyages and serves as the Tall Ship of Delaware, owned by a nonprofit foundation that offers people of all ages a variety of sea and land-based learning and recreational experiences. We saw her when she was docked in the harbor of historic Lewes, Delaware, on one of her educational tours.

I’m a semi-retired newspaper editor/writer who loves photography, especially flower macros, lighthouses, old mills and covered bridges.
