The Sharps Island Lighthouse, located on the Eastern shores of Maryland in the Chesapeake Bay, has a very distinct look. Not only is the 37-foot tower a cast iron caisson, it lists — tipped over about 15 degrees when large ice flows pushed up against the tower during a harsh winter in 1976-1977. This tower, the third light at the site, was built in 1881. The light was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 22, 1982.

I’m a semi-retired newspaper editor/writer who loves photography, especially flower macros, lighthouses, old mills and covered bridges.

OMG, I thought it was the tower in Pisa at first glance. This is a truly great shot.

LOL! Does look a bit like it, doesn’t it? Thank you, Dot! It’s not the prettiest of lighthouses, but it’s always been one of my favorites.
