Okay, this is amazing. Tell me the truth!! Are you also flying up there with them? How else do you get such close up shots??

  • thanks Kendall. It’s helpful to have them flying low over the ocean so a 500mm lens gets in close, then cropped some and you can get nice results. Thanks again Kendall and happy xmas, new year friend.

Another one of your GREAT captures Franklin, you tell those pelican to be cooperative when they comeback too Oregon so I can get shot like this. LoL….HaHa!
  • Thank you Chuck, but be prepared to wait awhile to catch them in flight because they are very lazy and prefer to swim a long distance before flying, unlike the Brown Florida Pelicans….

I know, one morning I watched them swim all the way across Fern Ridge Lake 3 miles across or more. So the next morning I got up early to catch them sleeping but they had already left town the same day I had seen them swiming. LOL

A smooth glider. Nice shot. These pelicans look clean cut compared to our brown pelicans we have here in NW Florida.

  • Thanks Janet and indeed the White Pelicans are constantly grooming themselves and never dive into the water to capture fish but instead lazily drift around scooping up water sifting for easy catches. They are like people on vacation when they arrive here in the winter.
