Barry by moltencrayons

I drew Barry, a model at a drawing workshop, in around 1997. He is a performance artist who uses his body, especially his face and hair, and beard or lack of one, to make a different visual statement every day. He took polaroid shots of himself at each transition, during what I believe was at least a couple years of this exercise, and set up the collage piece in an exhibit.

I drew Barry’s figure with ink as the first sketch. Then proceeded to add color with layers of oil pastel.

I hadn’t thought of this as primitivism before, but I like that classification a lot. Thanks Marco.
