the Scarecrow
Standing among giants of sunflowers,
Bright pumpkins growing at my feet.
Crows caw and leaves float on the breeze,
Old green tractor chugs a lively beat.

Children sweetly laughed into my hair,
Sticky hands with fresh straw to stuff.
Vintage clothes & buttons bound me now,
Soft cotton flannel is plenty warm enough.

I may be made to look scary to a bird,
But really, aren’t I quite nice and smart?
Take this leather gloved hand to hold,
I am not fake, this body has a heart.

Dorothy knew me, that courageous Lion too.
So, see my face and know I feel,
for in the mind of a child…
I become real.
