Carlos, you have an amazing eye for art, i love the style that you have used for this piece, great lighting and colours used very very interesting and outstanding piece, was there anything running through your head when you were doing this piece?... Amazing.
Harry
Carlos Solorza replied
thank you very much for your comment Harry. it’s very much appreciated. didn’t have any specific thoughts when i started this one. i began by painting the eyes and just kept looking at them. this one took shape as i worked on it. was experimenting a bit and for some reason, i kept looking at her eyes. i put it away for some time and when i picked it up again, i was still looking at her eyes. when i thought i was about done, actually almost giving up on it, i threw some color into the hair and presto!, she came to life.
Jeff Lynch IPA

hello Care and thank you very much.

well….I’m glad you didn’t throw it….i think it’s brilliant!!...
I never throw anything out….need a lot of memory and port hard drives to hold everything though ; )
TRACY BAGNALL
How did I miss this one, I like it very much. Very striking.
Carlos Solorza replied
hi Tracey, here’s another one that i replied to in the comment box.
it’s just above a bit.
i must be going senile. lol
Carlos Solorza
thank you, Trace. had no idea where i was going with this. just started it, almost threw it away, put it somewhere for a while, found it and finished it. lol
TRACY BAGNALL
We all do it, I usually have to copy and paste because I notice just in time. but not always.
TRACY BAGNALL
I try not to throw things away as they always look better at a later date and if you can do them up a bit, as I am now finding, it gives them a second life. Many masters too 30 years to actually finish a painting so why do we think we can do it in a few weeks or hours??? Trace xx
Carlos Solorza replied
hmmm, that is a strange thing, i do find myself thinking that i need to start and finish something rather quickly.
i do have a couple of pieces that are stored away somewhere, uncompleted. perhaps i will look for them and throw some paint on them or something. lol
carlos xx

Robert O'Neill
I haven’t tried airbrushing. Any advice you can share?
Carlos Solorza replied
Hello Robert.
hmmm, tips on airbrushing. this is one medium that takes a bit of practice, not only the application of paint but, also thinning out the medium you are using, acrylic, enamels, etc., so that the airbrush does not clog. keeping everything clean at all times can be a chore but, has to be done…constantly. having a compressor that will keep up with the amount of airbrushing you are doing and finding the right pressure for the medium in the airbrush.
the results of airbrushing can be fantastic but, it does take a bit of time to experiment, trial and error.
there are plenty of airbrush books around but, it will come down to actually playing around a bit. there are many tips available and most them are adjustable. my favorite ones have a control lever that controls the pressure and the amount of paint you are spraying with one finger.
i first got into airbrushing when i was working for an aerospce company, touching up black and white photos. this may be a good way to start, being that you learn shading, tones and such with only 3 small tubes of gouche ( black, white and a shade of gray).
once you get the hang of it, there are many techniques that you can use to get different effects.
the best source of information i found, was a monthly magazine published for the sign industry. i don’t recall the name but, it was a gold mine of info, with text and photos showing how different effects are achieved.
i have about 7 different airbrushes, which, except for this work you see here, i haven’t used in about 4 years. i will have to get back into it…it’s fun. i recommend getting one that has the finger tip control, doesn’t have to be an expensive one, and one that can be completely torn down for cleaning.
oh, i better stop here, ‘cause now i’m starting to remember all the different things you can do with one.
most important…practice and keep your tools clean.
if you have any specific questions, just drop me a line and i will try to answer them.

Thanks Carlos for sharing with me. I have seen the kits around for acrylic in particular and fancied the prospect of smooth effects—it’s hard to do them with brush and acrylic.
I might get a set around christmas time—we’ll see if I can sweet talk my wife..
Keep in touch Carlos. Once again thanks for the extended response
