  • Carlos Solorza replied

hi Jamie! thank you ery much.
it’s about 1:40am and i just finished this painting about 20 minutes ago. think i’ll go to sleep now.
i do appreciate your support very much :)

  • CateTownsend

    CateTownsend

how did you get the eye so glassy??? great work as usual….

  • Carlos Solorza replied

Hi Cate! right after the exclamation mark, there’s suppose to be a little hand waving but, couldn’t figure out how to do that. lol
Thank you very much for the comment.
the eye? hmmm. i stared at the reference photo for a long time and just tried to see the colours. so i just mixed a bit of Cadmium Orange, Pthalo Green, Crimson and Titanium White and didn’t blend them real well. added the white highlight an presto! lol
i think that the gray slate color helped with making the eye look glassy, i didn’t paint in the pupil
oh my gosh, i’m tired and i think i’m starting to blab. hahaha

  • Romo

    Romo

Love this…excellent work, the face and eye is amazing…the look and I really like how you left the gray slate showing on half of the face…really gives in more drama and impact:)

  • Carlos Solorza replied

hi Robin! thank you so much for the thoughtful comments.
Had a bit of an idea of what it would look like but, i think i like the results too.
going to try something on slate with more color!

  • Carlos Solorza replied

Hi Lorraine! thank you for the kind compliment.
if your talking about a slate floor…oh, wouldn’t that be the coolest?, to do an entire floor with art work! not sure how it would wear on slate but, it certainly would be a fun project!

  • Estelle O'Brien

    Estelle O'Brien

    Fantastic original work Carlos…very creative.

  • Carlos Solorza replied

I have more slate with a bit of colour in it. might try something with that or…i’ve been looking at some burlap bags that are doing nothing, just waiting to be painted on! hmmm…

  • Virginia McGowan

    Virginia McGowan

gee wonderful I didn’t know she ate the wolf ….ah your story hey?

  • Carlos Solorza replied

oh yes! she indeed ate the wolf.
the original story was written with a bit of a twist as to not to frighten children (lol). they did not want children, nor adults for that matter, to be under the impression that a young woman or girl, would and could actually devour a bad wolf.
the true story, which i have depicted with my painting, first started being told about the time that women’s lib started to catch on. for fear that the true story may have empowered women much more than could have been handled (by egotistical men), politicians, of the male gender, put a stop to the spreading of the true story.
i have known the truth of this story for quite some time.
i, for one, was once devoured by a red riding hood and it quickly reminded me of the way i was brought up. that is to have respect and that we are all created equal.
so, i figured i would just put out a subtle reminder to those (us men type) who may feel that they have a better grip and understanding of things than all the red riding hoods out and about in this world.
thank you for the kind comment and inquiry :)

  • Lee Wilde

    Lee Wilde

I did a Red Riding Hood a couple of years ago and at the time I read up on the fables. I had no idea a seemingly innocent children’s story had such dark undertones.

Really interesting approach to the painting, Carlos. Definitely something that attracts more than a casual glance.

  • Carlos Solorza replied

Hi Lee! thank you so much for the comment.
it’s kind of weird, the stories that were written as childrens books.
Three Blind Mice, getting their poor little tails chopped off with a butcher’s knife.
The Three little pigs and on and on.
    hmmm, kinda scary. lol

  • Lee Wilde

    TRACY BAGNALL

I do write mine down but it will never happen, some of them are more of the moment type of ideas and then they are gone, I had so much trouble n the begining because each piece can be made in a different medium, I supose the computer could help as I can at least see what it could look like done differently, well ,if I could get my head around how to do it I could.
