The Human Stain

It’s the sweat a lover leaves on your body,
The finger-prints on a discarded wine glass.
The dust that is your redundant skin,
On the surfaces of your life.

It’s the footprints on your kitchen floor,
From the night your thoughts were pacing.
It’s the hairs in the bath tub,
And the make up on the tissue.
That leave a mark still.

It’s the tyre marks from the fatality,
That you saw upon the highway.
It’s the pollution in the sky at night,
That makes the most beautiful sunsets.

It’s the pain in your soul,
From the loss you suffered years ago.
It’s the scribbled lines on the paper,
Showing your thoughts,
That leave a mark still.

It’s the raping of the landscape,
The pylons scoring the hills.
It’s the zig-zag scars across your life,
That leave a mark still.

I was simply musing the idea of what we leave behind us and what others leave for us..
